New Dressage Casein – “Shades Of Gray #3″

“Shades Of Gray#3″
casein on paper
9 x 12″

Even though the day started a bit gray, the sun came out and Spring called to me as I worked in my studio, saying “Come and play…the winter was cold and deep, but now it is time to come out and enjoy the warmth of spring and promises of things to come.” I listened but kept painting, finishing this one casein of a gray/white dressage horse for my “Shades of Gray” series. This is number 3….there are more to come…all playing with the discovery of colors in a gray horse brought out by the light and shadows. This painting as already been put up onto my website……… Now I am headed out for a bit to rake leaves from winter weary gardens while, the pups play.

Another White Horse

I have been working on this 11 3/4 x 13 3/4″ casein for a few days now, on and off. Yes, another white foreshortened horse. This is a subject that I can not get tired of exploring. And I will be doing more white horses over time…a series of sorts. [Like my 'Shades of Black' series that can be seen on my website.] This is a stallion from the Darley Farm in Lexington KY., a wonderful Thoroughbred Stud Farm that I was privileged to visit last spring. You don’t see many farms like this here in Maine!

It is quiet today at Cob Cottage Studio…Nellie, our non-stop Jack Russell Terrier, is at the vet’s, where she will spend the night, recuperating after having been spade this morning. She is doing well..or so I was told when I called a bit ago to check on her progress. Addie, our Corgi, is enjoying her reprieve from her nemesis and napping and taking leisurely strolls around the farm. How Nell has changed our life…for the better….since she came into it a year ago. But for today we are enjoying a quiet time.

Spring News!

Hello to all my Fans, Friends and Family,

Spring is finally feeling like it is here! I thought it might be time to spread some news.

Beginning April 15th you will find my work hanging on the walls of the FlatIron Steakhouse in Red Hook, NY. Along with some beautiful shots by the owner, Jessica Stingo, will be 6 of my pieces. So stop by for a fantastic meal…and take a look. I can honestly tell you that when we eat there, we eat everything on our plates. It is all delicious. There are vegetarian dishes and I can easily make a meal of their appetizers, salads and sides. Not to mention the desserts! www.flatironsteakhouse.com

After that….opening on May 2nd will be the Over Hill and Dale art show of equine and landscape work at the Maplebrook School in Amenia, NY. This show has work of the highest quality and partial proceeds from sales will go to support the therapeutic riding program sponsored by the school for it’s students. I will have 3 pieces hung in the show and 6 more matted available. So come on over on Derby Day and enjoy the camaraderie and artwork. More details on the reception time to come.

And don’t forget to purchase copies of White Horses – From the Literal to the Sublime. I have been thrilled with the feedback I have been getting and have already had to order more copies of the hardcover. Click here to see the preview of the hardcover, http://www.blurb.com/books/592211 Purchase directly through me and your copy will be signed and sent along with a special packet of postcards from the images in the book.

Enjoy what Spring you are getting. My crocuses are in bloom!

Warmly,
Juliet
