Bay Percherons Progress in Watercolor

Here is the progress as of today, Nov., 18th. This is a watercolor of Bay Percherons teamed together.
I’ve been posting the progress, you will find in older posts here on this blog.
I’m still liking this so far, so I guess I am doing ok on it! lol.
I’m working on getting that bouncing and reflective light that happens in the late afternoon evening. The day has been hot and bright and now it is cooling down and the glow of the setting sun bounces it’s orange colors around. I love that time of day.
Thanks for looking and reading,

Dark Red Bay Percherons, New Watercolor

I’ve started a new Watercolor this week. This is how far I have come on this as of today. This image is 13 x 14 inches. I took the reference photo at a Draft Horse Show this past Summer. I took so many photos that day. These two were part of a six horse hitch of dark red bay Percherons. I decided to crop the image to get an intimate feeling with the two up front, leading the pack. I’m getting very addicted to this painting. I go to bed at night, thinking how I would love to work on it…but my lighting isn’t very good in the studio at night. Not for getting true colors anyways. I’ve been thinking about those lights that create daylight in the studio. I may do some research on those. But then…I would be tempted to stay up at all hours of the night painting! That might not be so good for me. I wouldn’t get much sleep and my family really wouldn’t like me then! So I work hard all day on it, get a good nights sleep and jump out of bed in the morning…rearing to go at this painting again!
I finished the grumpy draft horse. I haven’t photographed it yet. I’m waiting for the best lighting situation to get a true to color image. A client saw it in person tonight and she really liked it. I think it will be a popular image! Maybe a Giclee reproduction is in store for that painting. He’s such a moody, grumpy horse, with a tangled mane!

Thank you for following my Blog. I enjoy painting and I really enjoy showing them to you. Even better is when you like them enough to add them to your collection. That is the ultimate praise to give an artist.

“Velvet and thistle” Watercolor Progress on a Buck.

A few days ago I started this 10 x 14 Watercolor of a Buck in Velvet, browsing around some thistle. If you remember back this past winter I worked up a graphite and colored pencil of this same Buck. Really, I just couldn’t stand the green background I had put in that painting. So I decided to try him in watercolor and I like this so much better. The thistle are from my own reference images I took of them here in my backyard where the woods meet the lawn path. This painting is the same size and orientation as the Kestrel painting. I think they shall make a nice pair.At the moment, the Kestrel painting is off being photographed to make Giclee Reproductions. If you would like to have a 10 x 14 Giclee of “The next generation, Am. Kestrel Falcon”, let me know. The Giclee will be ordered and printed soon. Here’s the image of “The next generation, Am. Kestrel Falcon” :

I also am working on a commission of an Airedale Dog for a client and creating the “Painting a child a day” each day, Monday through Fridays. I’m now off to ship out two Equine Paintings to the “Art at the Classic”, Draft Horse Classic, in Grass Valley, Ca.

I have a fan page on Face Book too. Look up to the side bar of this Blog and you will find a link to it. I’m up to 185 Fans! It’s a nice page and I’m enjoying keeping it up to date. My Blogs also feed into those pages.I just recently joined, as a “Sustaining Associate Member” the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society.

The next generation, American Kestrel

I finally have finished this watercolor of the American Kestrel Falcon. This painting is 10 x 14 inches. It has a nice glow of light. I’m very happy with this one.

I have titled it “The next generation” as it is an image of a young one that has left the nest.

I had a surprise this past weekend, as I found a blurb about me on ‘Tack n’ Talk’ Blog. I’ll be doing a full interview with them later this week. You can read the blurb here: http://tackandtalk.wordpress.com

I have another interview that you can view and read here at the Equinest : http://www.theequinest.com/debbie-flood

And one more interview that is waiting in the wings with the Editors. This one is an international interview, coming from Australia! I will post when this one goes live. It is for an online magazine, so waiting is most common with these venues.

I see I have a lot more followers here on my Blog. I want to thank you all for following my art and blog. For more art works you may visit my website at http://www.debfloodart.com

I also have another blog, which showcases my ‘Painting a child a day’. You can visit that Blog at http://www.paintingachildaday.com
I also have a public FaceBook page that you can become a Fan of and keep up to date with the things I am doing. The link is in the sidebar of my Blog here.

Have a great week!

Progress on the American Kestrel Watercolor

Today I worked on this painting a bit more. Mostly on the left side (wing) area. On Saturday I worked a bit on the fence post. I have to work in sections and in areas that keep me interested at the time…or I could get bored with it. If I get bored with it, then there is a chance of not executing a very good job and the spontaneity of it will be lost.

I have a nice interview~article online about me, my art and my passions. You can read it at http://www.theequinest.com/debbie-flood
