New!

Just finished up some new pendants for my Etsy shop and thought I would share.
When I get a spare minute I’ll be listing them. I really enjoy painting these little guys. Hard on the eyes but really fun. Whenever I wear one, people ask me where I bought it. Guess I need to remember to carry around business cards.

This black horse was inspired by one of those old Baroque dressage horse paintings by artists like Johann Georg de Hamilton. Click here for one of his paintings that I would love to have!

I brought this old box into my studio months ago for books and it’s become a favorite place

for my sweet little kitty Zazu to sleep, curled up, under my art table, right by my feet.

Now I can’t get rid of this ugly box.

You gotta love her:)

Lastly, thank you to all who commented on my last two posts – it really meant a lot to me. Two things near and dear to my heart, my daughter and horses. Someday soon I feel it’s all going to come together!

Dash

As promised in my previous post I have finished my whimsical cat sculpture.

Meet “Dash”!

I had an absolute ball creating this guy. Even though he isn’t a ginger cat, he’s inspired by our new kitten. I started making him the day after I tried to photograph Pumpkin (aka Toots) running around the yard. All I got were these crazy pictures of flying back legs. So we have Dash, short for Dashing Through the Snow. He’s created in a whimsical folk art style out of paper clay. His base and support are wood and he’s got loads of diamond dust glitter on his snowflake blanket and base. The entire piece measures 14.5″ tall x 12″ wide. I haven’t decided what venue I will sell him on. Right now he’s making me quite happy. If you are interested in purchasing him, please let me know.

I also finished 6 Holiday horse pendants! I’m going to offer them for 2 days on my blog before I put them in my Etsy store. Price is $29 each and that includes first class postage in the US ($2 more for postage abroad). I’ll accept check, money order or paypal. Each pendant is signed, hand painted, comes with a toggle clasp, an approx. 20″ black satin cord, glass accent beads and comes in a velvety drawstring bag. Email me if you want one! jmacneill@hotmail.com First come, first served!

Monarch

Most of the really flashy looking butterflies in my garden are also very skittish so I was super excited yesterday when this gorgeous Monarch let me take his photo. If you click on the photos you can really appreciate all the delicate details in her wing structure. I am amazed by nature every day and could sit for hours waiting to take the perfect photo. Hmm, maybe I should have been a field scientist or something. When I was a kid I thought the greatest job would be to work for National Geographic. Even got to see Jane Goodall lecture when I was in high school.

I’m so excited, today I finally have enough tomatoes from my garden to make a small pot of sauce. It’s funny how so many giant tomatoes cook down to just a few servings…

And I also finished 3 small pendants over the weekend that I’m currently adding to my Etsy shop: an Arabian, a bunny inspired by the Unicorn Tapestries and a whimsical Palomino horse (my favorite of the 3). Still working on the harvest welcome sign. Hope to start working on my Halloween horse series this week too!

Happy Monday!

Macro makes me giddy…

I am absolutely gaga over macro! You know, that little flower button on your digital camera that makes super close up photos look amazing? I walk around my garden several times a week (sometimes a day) taking really close up pictures of my flowers. I love to see the fine hairs, the tiny veins, the itsy bitsy spiders.
What’s really cool is downloading them to my computer and getting to see all the details you don’t normally see with the eye. Mother nature truly is the finest artist around!

On a separate note, I was walking out to the garden today with a clean and newly filled hummingbird feeder when a little female ruby throated hummer stopped me in my tracks and started to drink! My I was so insanely excited, my heart was beating like a, well, hummingbird’s! Man, do I wish I had my camera. I’ll have to work one getting some photos of these gorgeous birds before the end of summer!

So here’s some macro shots – click on each photo for a larger image.

In the studio I’ve finished a few more pendants for Etsy including one made from a littleTennessee Spinner gourd that I grew in my garden last year! I thought it would only be fitting to paint a pumpkin on it. I have a few more I hope to add to Etsy soon.
And I really like this Unicorn Tapestry inspired pendant too.

Here’s to a wonderful weekend! I’ll be finishing up a harvest moon welcome sign for EHAG’s August challenge.

Brand spanking new!

I managed to finish several projects recently and list them on Etsy and Ebay despite waking up with an incredibly painful neck. Don’t you just hate it when you sleep wrong?!

Here’s a little sample of my new pendants. Some horsey and some Halloween.
One of the biggest tips on Etsy for selling your work is to have great photos. My photos always seem a bit on the blah side so I decided to photograph this new batch out in the garden.

Also finally finished my EHAG July Challenge piece (better late than never, right?). Our theme was The Brothers Grimm. I had this witch house from Hansel and Gretel started over a year ago but just wasn’t feeling it. I switched the colors around and added some more candy and 2 days of work and am now very happy with the way it turned out!

When you get the chance pop over to the EHAG blog. Lucky me – I’m the newest spotlight artist!

Mini Art Pendants

I have some new necklaces coming soon, just painted the pendants today. I think they’re so cute, perfect for spring and summer. Have to let them dry a day before I add cord and beads. I have a Dutch bunny and horse started that I didn’t have time to finish today. Next week my husband has a three day week so I’m really hoping to work on an oil painting Thursday or Friday.

And just because I know my readers love flowers as much as I do, two more photos I took at Longwood Gardens last month (click for a larger image).
