“Shades Of Gray – Ladies In White” Oil on Copper 22 x 22″
I have had little time lately to actually get into a groove and get some quality studio time. I have been grabbing minutes here and there. But my husband, Les, is healing and doing well.So we must admit we are feeling a bit more than blessed these days. Les has a lovely place to rest and recuperate from his driving accident….I am just happy to have him home.Addie, our Corgi is busy being ‘Nurse Jane Fuzzy-Wuzzy’ and watching his every move. Nellie, our resident Jack Russell ‘Terrierist’ is making sure Les is being washed and loved. How could the man not heal?!!!
Until then……less painting….and more Les!

All our equine kids on the farm are well fed and busy these days, keeping the fields mowed. They complain that it is a full time job….and that I should not bother them this summer, as they are far to busy! Our bay Cob mares are the busiest, for sure!
This afternoon I took a walk out to the pond to snap some photos of our pond-lilies that are in bloom. The sun was too bright to get the true color of the lilies, but I so want to paint them and I am thinking this HAS to be done in oil and on copper! It won’t be plein air, but close to!!

And then, as I walked back from the pond and the fields, I saw the hydrangea in full blossom, a delicate blue and begging to be photographed…and should be painted! I know these are not horses, but I just have this need to try everything on copper and in oil!

But I have been painting too….between the walks….

“Pokey Pembroke”

Today I finished this small oil on copper of our Corgi…this will be added to my website and is available. In the meantime I need to get some caseins done for the September show at Gallery B ,in Lexington, KY. So it is back to the studio for me!

I have been working on this 11 3/4 x 13 3/4″ casein for a few days now, on and off. Yes, another white foreshortened horse. This is a subject that I can not get tired of exploring. And I will be doing more white horses over time…a series of sorts. [Like my 'Shades of Black' series that can be seen on my website.] This is a stallion from the Darley Farm in Lexington KY., a wonderful Thoroughbred Stud Farm that I was privileged to visit last spring. You don’t see many farms like this here in Maine!
It is quiet today at Cob Cottage Studio…Nellie, our non-stop Jack Russell Terrier, is at the vet’s, where she will spend the night, recuperating after having been spade this morning. She is doing well..or so I was told when I called a bit ago to check on her progress. Addie, our Corgi, is enjoying her reprieve from her nemesis and napping and taking leisurely strolls around the farm. How Nell has changed our life…for the better….since she came into it a year ago. But for today we are enjoying a quiet time.

Tucker belonged to a friend of mine and was her constant companion for many years. A few weeks after photos were taken for this picture she lost him suddenly to cancer. I couldn’t believe it, he was so full of life that day, and then just gone.
This original 5×7 watercolor is not for sale, but I am offering 5×7 giclees for $10 plus $5 S&H. 20% of all proceeds will be donated to the SPCA of Southwest MI. Please email me at lojomjnc@charter.net.

I don’t know what I did, but somehow I messed up the last blog entry and had to re-edit it. It doesn’t take much to “mess up” my brain sometimes………..any how……Here is Addie in her E-cone, being the brave Corgi. She will do anything for a snack….in true Corgi fashion.
The sun is shining out in Morrill, Maine this afternoon, so I am going out and mow some lawn.
I need a studio break. Addie will take a nap.

While I sit working on dreaded taxes and trying to get my “filing system” in order..[?]..I keep looking at this photo that is going to be my next “From The Loft” series painting. Why? Because I like the abstract effects in the photo and I want to play with the design elements. I am trying to make excuses why I should be painting. Sometimes life does get in the way. And the big date April 15th looms large. While I work upstairs in my studio not doing taxes, Nell amuses herself on lookout… from the back of the couch…. for stray turkeys. It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it! Addie [the Corgi] is sleeping..she needs her beauty rest! Nell on the other hand [resident JRT] is wide awake and itching for a fight! Look out turkeys!
Me? …I am working!

The wind howls around the house, but the pups are cozy basking in the sun. Nell keeps lookout for turkeys in the yard. Addie snoozes…. Life is good.
I saw this scene and have to capture it. My good friend and fellow artist Karen Pettengill just did a painting of her Koda dog sleeping in the sun….and our scene here so reminded me of her painting!
Check out her work!
I am waiting on the farrier now, the horses’ feet need trimming…another sign of spring. I don’t want to get into a painting and then have to stop when he arrives..so I am posting this for my blog event of the day!

This afternoon I was working in the studio on the two small paintings that I had started yesterday afternoon, when I heard someone in our front deck. By the time I got downstairs I saw a neighbor walking back to her car parked in the driveway….I called out to her…invited her in, but she said she was in a hurry….and she had left something for the puppy in the basket on the deck …a early May Day present? Actually it is Nell’s birthday.five months old!!! .or very close to! How neat! So the canine girls and I inspected the basket of goods….a squeaky hedgehog with bow, a blue rubber dumbbell and a fleecy faux sheepskin coat for Ms. Nell…the Florida girl! She had to model it and we have sent photos to Robyn to thank her for her gifts!

Addie is not very impressed….she says” Silly old JRT…..she does not have a beautiful three layered coat like I have!!!”
