Swishing Buddies

8 X 8 Oil on Board $65
Includes shipping and insurance

We are on the road – LaVeta, Colorado to be exact. Saturday we rode the train to Fir, Colorado to enjoy a Michael Martin Murphy concert on top of a mountain. Talk about a “Rocky Mountain High”!

On the way to the concert, we saw bears, elk and this pair of horses helping one another keep the flies at bay. The weather outside the RV was lovely this afternoon and I couldn’t resist getting the paints out.

This is not my usual style, I know, but while on the road I promised myself to try new directions. I’ll return to the more realistic stuff when I get home, I’m sure, but for now, I off in new directions….

This painting will need to dry a several weeks before I can ship it.

Matthew 5:39
But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Five Horses Continuous Line Drawing

nodp I recently found a clever website lately of an intriguing artist who loves rhinos. She calls her studio the Smelly Rhino. On the day I checked it out, she had posted a continuous line drawing of…a rhino, and it reminded me how necessary it is to return to the basics when the painting muse decides to go on vacation…and a valuable training tool is to draw negative shapes to acquire the solid shapes and to do it without lifting the pen or pencil. Often “happy accidents” occur and a pleasing composition emerges.
This may be my next large horse painting….or not.
Genesis 2:9
And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Left out 2 – arabian mares oil painting

32 X 16 Oil on Stretched 3/4″ canvas with painted sides $400
Includes shipping and insurance

We all know what it feels like to be left out of the clique. But most times they aren’t talking about us – and if we simply asked, we would be invited in! Lots of color and paint in this one, and in the interest of frugality, the sides are painted black so you can hang it on the wall immediately, live with it and decide about framing it later.

Revelation 19:9
Then the angel said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

What Do We Do Now?

Abstract Surrealism painting of Arabian mare and foal
9 X 15 Oil on gessoed masonite $150
Includes shipping and insurance and FREE custom oak frame

Barren, blazing landscape with a mare and foal undecided as to what direction to take. I actually saw this in a dream. I often dream of potential paintings, but I rarely paint them because they are usually so surreal. For a while I am going to follow through on those images and put them to canvas, or, as in this case, on masonite. I see a lot of reds and oranges in my dreams, too, so it looks like I will be using a lot of the cadmiums – expensive dreams!

Jeremiah 23:28
Let the prophet who has a dream tell his dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the LORD.

‘Seven in the Rain’ Contemporary Large Horse Painting by Laurie Justus Pace

“My child, listen to your father’s teaching and do not forget yor mother’s advice. Their teaching will be like flowers in your hair or a necklace around your neck.” Proverbs 1:8-9

The Painting: This piece continues in my Colors of Summer in another large format canvas of 30 x 30 inches. The paint is again Liquetex Heavy Body Acrylics.

The Thought: Two birthdays in a row gives much room to weight gain. The hard loss of 8 lbs over the last 8 weeks… could be gained back easily. There sits in my refrigerator half of a wonderful chocolate cake. I keep reminding myself. NO.

A thought that has floated around in my head the last few days was something my Dad told me years and years ago. I was probably in my twenties or early thirties. He was always the “go to” when something needed to be figured out. He taught me early in life to makes a list. Pros and cons stacked next to each other. He also told me there would be a day in my life where he would not be there for me anymore and I needed to learn to lean on my heavenly Father. He said it was never to early to get a good start establishing that pattern.

My mother has also been a tremendous guide in life in shaping who I am. Her experiences brought her closer to our Father and she learned early in life that she had to lean on Him when her dad died in his early sixties. He was her confidant and friend. He was her father and her “go to” person.

I give thanks for such positive examples in my life as they both exemplify and embrace the love of God. My Dad suffers from Alzheimers. Each week we visit he fades a bit more. He has not known me in over a year. Last trip up he wasn’t sure where my mom was and she was sitting in the car with him. God holds him tenderly in His arms right now. He is safe and loved and guarded by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Go out today and set this positive affirmation of the Father. Light the way for those around you to follow.

Race to the Flames

Facing the flaming future fearlessly. I love alliteration – especially in art! Talk radio has been ominous lately. I don’t know what to believe, but I refuse to run and hide. My art will reflect this for a while, I think.

I have been having a number of conversations with God lately and most of these talks have centered around death. Not just my own, but people close to me. I lost my father 25 years ago, and I still miss him, but I have no doubt where he is and that I’ll see him again. I still have my adorable mother and both my incredible in-laws in my life – and they, too, are going where I’m going. Hopefully, not soon, but every one’s path terminates eventually and the older you get, the more you think about it.

I had a revelation the other day as I was drying my hair over the air conditioning unit outside (this has been my practice for a number of years). After we die (if we believe in God, that is) so MANY questions are answered. I have always been a questioner, and I always want to know how stuff works, and why we do something a certain way, etc. I cannot WAIT to have all my questions answered. That ALONE makes the future less ominous. I’m still gonna paint flames for a while, though, because I like them.

Ecclesiastes 7:10
Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.

Face the Flames

A topic on the radio today forecast the end of the world in 2012. Scary stuff and late-night food for thought, to be sure. I prefer not to think about it, but I DO try to live my life today as if there was no tomorrow – here in THIS world, at any rate.

Regardless of the future, we need to face it, head on, without fear. This painting is purely from my imagination – rare for me. I may need to paint the image in a large format – if you are interested, please contact me for a commission. I am leaning toward the most colorful, semi-abstract images right now, and I would really enjoy doing some BIG canvases!

Zephaniah 1:18
Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the LORD’s wrath. In the fire of his jealousy the whole world will be consumed, for he will make a sudden end of all who live in the earth.
