Whitetail Deer

I felt the need to switch gears this fall and decided to treat myself to a wildlife painting of my favorite big game animal, the whitetail deer. I have used a photo taken by my husband two years ago during a hunting trip and adapted it for this project. I’m still in the early stages here but gaining momentum! Check back later for updates!

Work In Progress IV

There’s nuthin’ I hate worse than discovering I’m close to missing a deadline! The Harness Tracks of America Art Auction deadline snuck up on me. Yesterday I rallied and got a piece ready. The deadline for submission is in two weeks so I started this ( drawing and all…) yesterday morning at 5:00 am and didn’t stop till 10 last night…putting in a personal best ( for me) of 12 hours in one day! I usually only spend three or four hours a day on a piece, but this one had to be quick! I still have work to do on it, but I got enough done to easily meet my deadline!

Whew! Hope I don’t have to do that again!

The title of the piece is Work In Progress IV ; continuing a series I started three years ago. It’s oil on canvas 20″ x 30″

Enjoy!

Le Cadeau du Cheval Finished

Well after a harrowing Memorial Day weekend dodging tornados, I think I have my panel of Yorktown finished. He was a famous American Saddlebred stallion from the late sixties. There were very few photos of him for some reason so finding a face marking was rather difficult. He has sired some of the greatest contemporary show horses in the ring today and his name appeares in a great number of pedigrees. I chose him though, not so much for his contributions in that regard, but in his handsome regal look! He is everything a horse should be in my opinion…proud and lofty and fully chromed out with his flaxen mane and tail, white legs, and beautiful face! When I think of saddlebred, this is the horse that first comes to my mind!

I have to admit I had a hard time waiting for the paint to dry enough so I could resume painting! But this morning it was ready enough for me to pick up where I left off.

I spent some time refining the facial details and suggesting in a background…put in the head gear…

Ok…I got enough juice outta those batteries to take a few pictures!

I will have to wait now till the paint dries…it’s all too wet to do anymore for a while…

The sketch is done and I’m already in the studio painting the first layer of paint! I planned on taking a pic of it in progress but had to stop…batteries died on me before I got to take the first pic so I’m taking a break whilst they recharge!

It’s 11:00…check back in an hour for some in-progress photos!

The first words off my finger tips are “ Le Cadeau Du Cheval “. This is a mural mosaic project that will be unveiled in the fall. Yesterday I got my panel…not my first choice. but my second and I can’t wait to get started!
Now, I’m new at this blogging thing so if I can, I will attempt to insert a link here for the Mural Mosaics site. Now if that works, I’ll be amazed!
I better insert a piece of art here and come back later…this is SUCH a strain! I’m not much of a typist and I have to get busy doing chores!
I will be posting works in progress and keeping you all informed of important dates upcomming like the Lexington Junior League show where I will have a booth in the trade show. That’s upcomming for July…
Well, let’s get that picture posted…this is an oil on canvas I did just recently to take to Lexington. It’s a 24″ x 30″ .

Le Cadeau Du Cheval – The Horse Gift

I just finished other work and now it’s time to start my panel for ” Le Cadeau Du Cheval ” – The Horse Gift!

Here’s my panel – # 152 -

I’ve been “doodling” all morning and think I have something that will work for this color. I will be portraying an American Saddlebred from the past so those of you who are familiar with this dynamic show breed will recognize him immediatly…I hope!

I’ll be back this evening with an update!
