A Quiet Day … A REALLY Quiet Day

I stepped out of the house yesterday morning on the way to the gallery and after about half a dozen steps, realized that something really odd was going on.

There was no wind.

Something must be coming, I thought, then laughed at myself. I’m in Kansas, right in the center of the country where weather patterns from the south collide with weather patterns from the north and mix with whatever is coming in from the Rockies. There’s ALWAYS something coming.

There just isn’t anyway to tell which direction it’s coming from when there’s no wind.

Besides, Kansas derives its name from the Kansa indians, also known as the People of the South Wind. The wind is always blowing here. A day without wind is just not normal!

All jesting aside, it was a delightful day (just look at all that sunshine!) and I was very pleased to have things as quiet in my head as it was outside. After two consecutive days of migraine symptoms, it was very nice to wake up feeling well and to get through the day without headaches and that ‘foggy’ thinking progress that goes with other migraine symptoms. Praise the Lord!

Portrait work is progressing very well. In addition to October Skies, which was signed last week, another portrait is very close to completion. Completion by Thanksgiving weekend is looking very possible. One other is in the under painting phase and I am hoping to have the under painting complete by the end of the day on November 29.

But for the time being, work at the gallery is taking up most of my time. The Taste of Christmas concluded yesterday and we had a total of nearly 200 visitors at the gallery for the five days and extended hours.

A week from this coming Saturday, the 2008 World of Small & Miniature artwork opens. All entries are now at the gallery, so I’m in the middle of the work of processing images, writing web code and getting the exhibit set up. It’s going to be a great show with original artwork assembled in Newton from four countries and a dozen states.

That is being followed up by the Sixth Annual Five Places of Christmas celebration on Saturday, December 6. On that day, five local arts, culture and education organizations participate in a group event that invites visitors from the South Central Kansas region to come to Newton and see what is available. That day is also the official opening for the World of Small & Miniature Art show, so it will be busy.

After that…a week or two of ‘quiet’ at the gallery and, Lord willing, some good work on selling, painting, writing and goal setting.
