Promotional video about the World Famous Lipizzan Stallions.
After finishing my Le Cadeau du Cheval mural mosaic panel, I’m ready to paint some more Lipizzans. I had a lot of fun taking photos of The World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions (plus one Andalusian) last Spring. Between my husband and I, we took over 500 shots, and almost every one could be used as reference for a painting. Here are some of my favorites:

I think this is the same horse I painted for the Le Cadeau du Cheval mural mosaic. Isn’t he gorgeous?

I have a thing for boots and butts. This shows how close we were seated to the horses.

The levade with rider Victor Pozzo.

Dancing to the big band beat of Benny Goodman’s“Sing, Sing, Sing” with partner Victor Pozzo, the head rider for the show.
If you get a chance, go out and see these horses! The World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions tour the US and Canada regularly. If you’re an artist or photographer, rejoice, because they welcome still cameras and even flash. (Individual venues might have different rules, so check with them first.) There’s inexpensive seating available on the floor, so close to the horses you’ll get covered in horse spit. One thing I loved about this show was how the female riders didn’t suppress the huge smiles on their faces as they rode. You could tell they were having the times of their lives (as they should, riding Lipizzan stallions and wearing really cool boots), and it made me smile to see their joy.
Also located in the US are Herrmann’s Original Royal Lipizzans from Myakka City, Florida, and the Tempel Lipizzans of Wadsworth, Illinois. Check their websites for appearance schedules.
If you want to see the horses that started it all, it’s possible that the original Lipizzans from the Spanish Riding School in Austria might return to the eastern US for a very rare appearance in 2010!

Thank’s so much for the great pictures of the show. My son Victor is the Head Rider and your wonderful comments and pictures will be sent to him as soon as possible.
You are right about the smiles on the riders faces, they are having a great time. They all love what they do and love those beautiful horses.
Thank’s again,
Victor’s MOM
To Victor’s Mom. Last night I had the pleasure of watching the Lipizzaners. To my surprise the head rider is Victor Pozzo. I thought that’s odd since I grew up with a Victor Pozzo. Your son was wonderful and looks a lot like his father. It was my pleasure.
Hi Nancy Lee - yes they are father and son….and are they mirror imagines of eachother…..Please e-mail me and let me know how and when you knew Vic Sr….
ops looks like I have to enter my email address in this portion in order for you to get it……so CPAB2 at aol.com…..looking forward to hearing from you !!!!
Sandy
Hi! Your video and pictures are really good! To Victor’s mom Sandy, I am so glad that I had the chance to watch the show in Los Angeles last night. The horses and riders are amazing and I am inspired to try to become “one” with my own horse when I ride. Although I ride Western and sometimes English, I think the principles of using subtle cues and having good communication with the horse carry over to every discipline. Please tell Victor that I really enjoyed watching him and the other lovely riders!
Yes, I will be happy to send all in the show your message, Grace. They love having positive feedback from those who have had the experience of watching them and their performances. They are off to Indio as we speak, and then Santa Barbara,Vegas and a few other places on the West Coast. Go to thier site “The World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions” and you can see all of the great places next in thier travels……There is also a great PBS special on the show and the background which is very interesting and informative. You will also be able to see the training facility in Oviedo, Florida. Beautiful……
Thank’s again, and by all means do become “one” with your own horse as the benefit to both of you will be amazing!!!!!
Sandy, would you happen to have the name of the PBS special? I did a search for it but didn’t come up with anything. I’d love to see it.
Grace, that connection between horse and rider is something to see, isn’t it? I’m planning a painting of Victor and one of the horses for an equine art competition with the them “Connection.” What could be more perfect? It’s visual poetry.
Hi - on the Lipizzaners Home site look at the left hand bottom of the page and you will see thier performance on Martha Stewart last October and well as a link for the PBS special…….make sure you go to the upper right hand top of the page and turn off the music for the page itself…..Or, you can check out YOU TUBE and it is also on there. This was done last winter when the show was in Oviedo - Florida for the end of the year rest period……..it is very interesting to watch….
You would be amazed where I see pictures of Victor…..how lovely of you to consider him….I would love to see the finished project….Can you tell I am a proud MOM???
I totally agree with you Tami. I just loved seeing the partnership between rider and horse. It really is poetry in motion!
By the way, I absolutely LOVE your work!
I had the pleasure of watching a performance last night in Bakersfield, CA and I’ve never been more impressed by a rider than I was by Victor Pozzo he put on an amazing show. I plan on attending the show again when it comes to Klamath Falls,OR.
Does anyone know anything about an artist named Chojnacki that painted portraits of the lipizzaner stallions a few years ago? I’ve heard about them and would like to learn more. Apparently she did some life size! Does anyone know where the paintings can be seen or how the artist could be contacted? I believe the first name of the artist is Anne or Annie.
