The two small format paintings I started on Saturday are still very wet so I wasn’t able to do anything with them. It will probably be another few days before they can be finished.

This painting, however, has been hanging around for weeks. I tinker with it whenever the mood strikes but ignore it the rest of the time.

Today, when I took it down to look at it, I decided it was finished. That sometimes happens. I put my signature on it, photographed it and added to to the completed painting list. It is the 16th small format painting completed so far this year.

“Sun Glow” is a original oil on 5×7 canvas panel.

It began as a color study for something else. I don’t even remember what the idea was at the time, so it must not have worked out.

But “Sun Glow” has been developed over the course of several weeks and exhibits quite a few experimental color selections and techniques. For example, you will no doubt recognize the almost pointillistic leaves as being very close to what I am currently doing with October Skies. I tried that technique first here.

Same for the way the sunlit grasses were painted in the foreground.

These little test paintings quite often don’t stand on their own merit, but I think this one does.

At the time of this writing, “Sun Glow” is available unframed for $125. It is available with basic framing for $156. You are also welcome to contact me for quotes on custom framing.

As always, thank you for visiting my blog and feel free to pass on links to anyone you think will enjoy these talks.
